As the title indicates, the plan of this speller is cumulative. Each lesson consists of sixteen words, the first twelve of which are respelled phonetically and defined. The syllabication, pronunciation, and definition of the remaining four words should be assigned to the student as homework. A homework dictionary, containing all of these special words, is included in the speller at the end of the first hundred regular lessons.... This book can, of course, be used in the ordinary way by those who do not know shorthand, and also by those students who have not yet finished the study of the theory.
